Multiple Offers in Ontario: What You Are Allowed to Know About the Other Offers

العربية

You offer on a home and hear there are other offers. What can you find out? Since December 1, 2023, the rules for multiple offers in Ontario are set out in RECO’s Information Guide. Checked October 3, 2026.

What you are entitled to know

A buyer who has made an offer is entitled to know the number of competing offers.

What the seller decides

  • The seller chooses how much other information, if any, to share about the offers.
  • The seller must give the listing agent clear written direction before the content of any offer is shared.
  • The seller can make that decision at any time. You may not know in advance.
  • Personal or identifying information in an offer cannot be shared.

What you decide as a buyer

You decide whether to take part in a process where the content of your offer might be shared with other buyers. Your agent can tell you the steps to take if you do not want it shared.

What this means for your offer

  • Build your price from your own numbers: what similar homes sold for, and what you can afford. Not from a guess about what others wrote.
  • Decide your walk-away price before offer night, not during it.
  • Know what you are giving up if you remove conditions. Ask before you do.

Start with what you can afford: the affordability calculator. Earlier in this series: who pays your agent.
